My friend was offended.
“What’s the point of this country dude’s cover of Fast Car? It’s EXACTLY the same.”
I think what he means by this is that Luke Combs’ cover doesn’t reimagine the original.
I’d say that’s for the best.
But also: they’re NOT exactly the same.
Tracy Chapman’s original has a lot of repetitions of the riff.
Luke Combs’ version tightens up those sections…
…and the time saved lets him play the chorus again!
That’s a win in my book.
