For readers, your free metronome boot camp course is awesome for getting that playing in time skill under control. It sure has pointed out to me where I need some work. Who knew?!?
Great post. May I suggest an alternative DAW that is cross platform and has full professional features? That is Reaper. It has a free forever trial, fully featured, and a recommended license price of $60. A remarkable product, open source and updated constantly. Also there is a huge user forum and multitudes of high quality YouTube tutorials on everything in the program from beginner basics to arcane professional techniques. Cheers.
I tried Reaper but didn’t care for it. I know there are lots of people who swear by it though.
Specifically the thing I find most valuable about Ableton & Logic is how easy it is to have the DAW follow the tempo of the audio—you can drag in non-metronomic (ie older and/or live) music and set the ruler to the band’s time.

I'd suggest one more "Basic"...
- Play without tension or effort
As a beginner guitarist, I'm really enjoying your Substack so far!
Note: Some of the links didn't work for me today.
Good addition to the list!
I just noticed that the Verse 1 audio clip doesn’t play. Were there other links that didn’t work for you?
Soundslice of the Solo is not working for me as well
Excellent one this week. 😍. So much time wasted looking for shortcuts, hacks and magic formulas....
Thanks Julio!
How did I know it wasn’t swung eighths at 144 bpm?
Easy: I listened to the snare drum—it’s on the backbeat (2 & 4).
The times I've wondered about this and how one can tell the difference.... Brilliant.
